Does anyone think the Govt will fix the faulty power system National created in the late 1990's?
Saying the issues will be fixed if they remove the prospecting bans and enable 'fast track' of consent is just bull****.
It takes an average of 16 years from prospecting to delivery of new gas and none was found for years prior to the ban.
There are already many new power generation plans consented but building hasn't started so why is there a need to 'fast track'?

It isn't in the generator's interest to have more power - scarcity is gold!

The police have been doing this for years and years - nothing new here!

Yes, they were until Ardern & Hipkins stopped the crackdown with their pro-gang and pro-crims policies.

Thanks for reminding us. You are a champ!

They've been happening during the 6 years of Labour - don't let facts get in the way of your story.

And recall how Ardern & the Maori cabal funnelled funds to the gangs to assist them to peddle drugs more effectively?

Gang-related arrests and enforcement actions under the Ardern government in New Zealand.

On November 01, 2021 the Police said they currently have a very large operation targeting gangs underway, Operation Tauwhiro. Operation Tauwhiro has been running for the past eight months and has hit the gangs hard, to date there have been 940 arrests, over $5million seized, over 1200 searches and over 32kg of meth taken off the streets.

Just over a week ago Police terminated Operation Chestnut, a 10 month operation targeting gang drug dealing and money laundering, arresting seven and restraining assets worth $3.5million in the process.

As part of a joint Australasian taskforce targeting criminal motorcycle gangs, New Zealand Police conducted a "Week of Action" that yielded 28 search warrants executed, 20 arrests made, over $520,000 cash seized, Over 260 kg of illicit substances seized, 1 clandestine drug laboratory uncovered, 3 firearms seized.

Operation Cobalt - This ongoing operation focused on tackling gangs and organized crime has resulted in nearly 40,000 charges laid and over 400 firearms seized.

The government has invested in additional police resources to target gangs, including nearly 700 additional police officers working on gang and organized crime issues. While the government has taken enforcement actions against gangs, they have also emphasized that arrests alone will not solve the underlying issues. The Prime Minister's Chief Science Advisor has warned that New Zealand "can't arrest its way out of the gang problem" and that longer-term interventions addressing root causes are also needed.

On 5 July 2023 Professor Dame Juliet Gerrard quietly released a new report which examines the context within which gangs exist in New Zealand.
It was requested last year by former prime minister Jacinda Ardern, "to support a policy agenda to reduce gang harm in our communities".
The government has long been under pressure to control gang crime, with opposition parties accusing Labour of being soft on crime.

The report concludes there is no quick way of reducing gang harm.
Reducing harm, the report said, would require tackling the underlying and unsolved societal issues, including inequity, intergenerational trauma, housing and family violence.
"All of which serve to narrow the choices of those in our society who experience complex and inter-connected stressors," it said.

Herein lies the difference. Now we have a Government that actually puts these arseholes in jail, where they belong. Not working with them to figure out how to "reduce harm" without hurting their feelings.. Jacinda's approcah to criminals was an abject failure whichever way you look at it. Just look at ramraids, shop theft etc etc.
You can try to justify as much as you like moka but NZ was fed up with it and voted for a change.

Without working out what causes the issue you'll never solve it.
You'll have to keep putting more and more people in jail without changing anything. (Remember that they have to cause harm before they go to jail - the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff stuff.)
This Govt says that they do things on an evidence basis - we just haven't seen any evidence of that.

(un)Balance doesn't like stuff that conflicts with the stories he tells himself.
