The Mayor being a Green Party member should not be voting for Asset sales as per their manefesto ....they are doing her a favour .

Just shows how toxic the council is. But they are not doing anyone a favour, there are far better investments for the council than airport shares. For example, shares in Infratil.

Of course being a member doesn't make her bound by the manifesto.

    Which ones?

it sounds like changing circumstances and broken promises led to some changing their mind.

“Councillor Tony Randle said three centre-right councillors had originally voted in favour of selling the shares, as it came with a promise from the council not to spend its rainy day fund of $272 million.”
    https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/...itch-positions

But since then, the money had been spent anyway, with the plan being to replace it with the proceeds from the sale of the shares.”

    Left wing money management 101.

You get what you vote for.

Randle, Young and Calvert. The last sentence you quote is fairly odd for all sorts of reasons.

That's a telling analysis. Are you three?

Not sure why people thinks it’s a “toxic” council - Wellingtonians voted in a left leaning mayor and councillor majority, and they are making decisions that you would expect a left leaning council to make (more spending on social services, civic assets, public transport etc)

The only people calling it toxic are the right leaning councillors who don't have enough votes to make anything go their way so resort to the “Council is dysfunctional” accusations.

I was ecstatic that they initially voted to sell the airport shares, not surprised that it is looking like that decisions will be reversed though.

Because the Councillors squabble like teenagers, whilst ignoring what their constituents want, after hiking local rates nearly 20%??? I think you'll find that most informed Wellingtonians consider the Mayor one of the most toxic people ever elected. It is most unfortunate that her ego is inversely proportionate to her ability to oversee a Council.

As an aside, I saw a cyclist fall off their bicycle after riding through water from a burst water main last weekend. Poignant!

Business Desk reporting that Sir Peter Jackson has paid $104m for the freehold and leasehold interests in the block of land in Rongotai. Wellington Airport owned the leasehold interest so presumably got a share of the purchase price.
