It isn't often that I find myself in sympathy with the Trump camp, but they are currently being excoriated because JD Vance was being interviewed by Brett Weisenstein (think Evergreen).

Weisenstein mentioned that the function of postmenopausal women was to be grandparents, and Vance said 'Yes'. All hell has (understandably) broken out, and this has (again understandably) been used as an example of the Trump camp's contempt for women.

It wasn't (though they have plenty).

Weisenstein is an evolutionary biologist, and in that context, his statement was correct. For almost all the course of human evolution, women have been the principle caregivers, and as they age, there comes a point where (in terms of their health and life expectancy) it is statistically better to put energy and resources into the nurture of grandchildren carrying a quarter of their genes rather than another child carrying half their genes. Natural selection produces menopause.

    Trump loves Russia though

Communism doesn't lend itself well to educated women. See the chinese govt 3000 beareaucrats in the national people congress - nearly all men, same with vietnam and russia.

“The whole purpose of the postmenopausal female ….”

Not about the function of grandparents but the whole purpose - that is what Just Dumb Vance agreed with. By itself bad enough but in the context of him opining about childless cat ladies’, his comments show the mindset of a Stone Age moron.

Off topic here but childbirth itself was a brutal affair sometimes killing the mother along with the child. It still puts the mothers life at risk. Smallpox/plague/infection would then routinely sweep through and thin out the survivors. Other species are more resilient to both of these issues.

Without medical interventions we would be in the same position. Yet somehow we are still here (maybe because we bred like rabbits as late as the victorian era).

Hmmm I think that depends on your station & wealth.
If you were of the gentry class I.e you had choices then children were quite often wet nursed and raised by a nanny.

If good old granny was visiting they children might be brought out for a recital before being scuttled off for the evening.

Absolutely - but Weisenstein was referring to natural selection operating over a couple of hundred thousand years to produce females who become infertile before the end of their lifespan. In the animal kingdom, that is unusual. Toothed whales, perhaps chimps, and that's about it (or was when I knew about that stuff).

Harris campaign has a $370M advertising budget!
What's that $2.35 for every voter?
    Just incredible.

Harris campaign books ‘largest ever’ digital ad blitz in $200m effort to reach voters on their phones (msn.com)
Hopefully you find my posts helpful, but in no way should they be construed as advice. Make your own decision.

You find it really hard to accept that Our ex PM has an international reputation as a career politician who dared to reintroduce some of the softer, more caring (feminine?) values into our national discourse at a time of crisis.

'That mob' incidentally can be distinguished from the 'other mob' who have been taken over by and who support a racist misogynist fraudster, cheat, insurrectionist, rapist, and (arguable) traitor, who has been frank about his dictatorial ambitions, his determination to weaponise the DoJ to go after his enemies, withdraw from NATO ........ I could go on.... and on..... and on..... - but it seems to me that your ideology has once again overcome your rationality.
