Māori name changes for Auckland suburbs: NZ Geographic Board opens consultations on proposals

The New Zealand Geographic Board has opened consultations on proposals to “correct and restore” two Māori place names in Auckland.

The proposals call for the restoration of the original Māori name Te Tōangaroa to an area on Auckland CBD’s waterfront and correction in the spelling of Takanini to Takaanini.

Local iwi Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei made the proposal to restore the traditional Māori name Te Tōangaroa and assign it as an official place name for an area of Auckland’s waterfront.

The name would apply to the area bordered by Britomart Place, Beach Rd, Quay St and State Highway 16.

The piece of land houses Spark Arena, the Strand Railway Station, Te Taou Reserve, Mahuhu ki te Rangi Park and several apartment buildings.

Nothing like a little extra to confuse Mayor Brown & the perpetually confuddled AT even more

NB Spelling lessons might take considerably longer, provided further distractions don't crop up earlier

When the pylon fell over, the local rumour in the North was that they had been waterblasting rust scale, and that that had weakened the supports at the base. Last night's Advocate reported that nuts were loosened on the base supports, and the movement this permitted got bigger and bigger until the structure failed.

Arnt we fortunate to have Wayne Brown as our Mayor, he very quickly identifies the cause, the root problem and how to solving of almost issues that befell this country and thats the great benefit of having an educated engineer in charge instead of a failed politician !

Labour's derailed light rail project has been usurped by a new toy!

The good old Chinese have invented a trackless tram.

Apparently it costs a third of the price of light rail.

So confident they are of it running rings around anything else, they are giving Auckland a free trial.

No doubt Brownie will be on board with this little tooter.

Have they invented a Mayor-Less Mare yet as a new toy for Wellington to fix all the water issues in one swoop
or still in development phase iroing out numerous known issues & getting all the screech tones of Welly right ?
