The coalition's controversial repeal of Smokefree NZ legislation isn't going away.
Reti doesn't want to be tarred with the stain of it as health minister and doctor and rightly so as it was NZF that cozied up to the tobacco industry and pushed this legislation through as one of the first items for the new Government. Such was the priority to let New Zealanders and the health sector down on an issue they buried in their manifesto and never campaigned on.

And more, arrogance on full display from NZF's Costello think they are above the law.
Full mea culpa mode doesn't cut it.

Dr. Reti obviously has abided by the collective decisions of the Cabinet, in which he sits, filled with the stale cigarette smoke of tobacco stained NZ First. Guilt by association?

I feel for Reti as he had no choice but go along with it probably despite him being a doctor and pledge to do no harm, it's more Luxon at fault as he agreed to the coalition agreement with NZF.
But if you sleep with mutts, you are bound to get fleas.
Hopefully you find my posts helpful, but in no way should they be construed as advice. Make your own decision.

Why did they repeal it? I know Act wanted it gone, but why?

I have no hard information, but I would not be in the least surprised to learn that the Tobacco Industry were big donors to ACT.

And Chris Bishop was a former lobbyist for Philip Morris of course.
