Interesting article on Pen's party in France.
The Poms must be thinking why did we go to war for these French batards.
Churchill must be rolling in his crypt at St Paul's.

Churchill may be but Farange sure isn't. He's dancing on top.

Churchill was not exactly a progressive in todays terms.
He was of a generation of British leaders for whom it was the white man’s burden to “look after” others. Whether it was racism or imperialism, is open to question. Churchill went to war to protect the British Empire from a Nazi Germany dominated Europe, not for France.

It was Chamberlain that declared war on Germany not Churchill, but Churchill had long been warning the UK about the dangers of the Nazis.
I don't think Churchill cared if the Nazis & Russia were at war with each other as he had no time for Stalin either.
The UK had a pact with France to go to each other's aid & France had a pact with Poland.
By the time the war was finished the UK was war wary and pretty much bankrupt as well as bombed to blazers. I don't think there would have been any appetite let alone resources to then take on a supposed ally in Russia.

Churchill's State funeral was at St Paul's. He's not buried there. There is a floorstone memorial to him and the Battle of Britain in Westminster Abbey, but he is actually buried at Blaydon churchyard, near to the family pile of Blenheim Palace.

That's pretty much how I have always understood it - but I don't think he had much time for the French fascists or the Vichy lot.

Without Churchill to galvanise the allies and the fight against Hitler, the “European Union” would have been a very different place. The last British post-war reconstruction debt to the USA was finally repaid in 2006.
Anti-racism hecklers are ejected from Farage’s election victory speech.

Vichy scuttled the French navy to keep it out of the control not only of the Nazis but to stop the British and allies getting it too..

It appears the left wing in France have strategically out maneuvered the far right.
Thank gawd for small mercies if the facists can be kept out.
