NEW JOB LISTING AT DISCOVERY SINGAPORE:

"Discovery is looking for a talented Technical Program Managers to join the Global Affiliate Integration team with responsibilities within the Set-top Box (STB) deployment workstream."
SET TOP BOX?

Will Discovery buy Sky for it's ~1m customers and then upgrade the old "Sky set-top box" with a new "Discovery set top box" so they can stream their content direct to NZ consumers?
Thoughts?
They are planning to build a STB that can be used in all of the territories that they have direct-to-consumer access? In no way, shape or form does this increase the likelihood of a SKT.NZ takeover?
We have been through this mate, Discovery do not want or need Sky TV. They would have purchased Sky by now if they did. Discovery are in a sweet spot right now, they still get a guaranteed income from Sky every month, but with a co-exclusive deal so they can put more of their content on TV3 and increase ad revenue. Discovery do not need to fork out $500M+ to buy Sky when the deal they have already is pretty sweet.
Like Elsa once said: "Let it Go".
Good to know that Discovery also see a future in a modern STB though! Sky are on the right track here with NVIDIA SHIELD!
Now, Vocus on the other hand...that screams a match made in Heaven!
Indeed.
Completely different company operating in an industry that will take many years to recover. Cinema attendance was already on the downtrend, now with Covid raging...
EBITDA for Vista was around $30M before Covid hit...one fifth of what Sky is at. Revenue also about one fifth of Sky...
Yet an investor would still happily fork out over half a billion dollars to buy Vista, but only $300M for Sky...
Something not quite adding up here!
Damn. Just read that UFC will go to Spark Sport for its PPV events. I don't like UFC but unfortunately many people do. That's a blow.
Will be available on both Sky Sport and Spark Sport moving forward.

Sky no longer prepared to pony up for exclusive rights for everything. Will only fork out for exclusivity for critical content to ensure there are enough 'hooks' to differentiate their offering.
Welcome to the Real World.
