Well, the main thing is she is cuzzie wahine.
Crappy news yes, but at least nobody can accuse TVNZ of racism or sexism!
AHHHH HUHUHUHUHUHU!

I'm just saying that MSM, especially government funded, should look into themselves and question whether opinionated and obviously biased journalism and reporting, from whatever source, is best for their audience and their credibility and longevity. I don't think it is.
You on the other hand seem inclined to conjoin that with the publishers choice of the presenter, their gender and their race, and from that extrapolate that as causal inference that their journalism is therefore guaranteed to be inherently biased and opinionated. A long bow.
I don't see it that way. I couldn't care less whether it was a pale stale white male or a Maori female, who expressed their own personal views and apparent bias on MSM, neither is appropriate, or necessary, it undermines their credibility and drives away their audience.
Journalism and reporting imo should just stick to the 'news', tell us the facts, don't spin it one way or the other. And there is no place in MSM media for opinion, regardless of it's source, or their gender or bias and opinions.
Yes that is fair enough. And I agree with all you say about the general state of MSM and the bias etc.
But let me put it another way…if Maiki never (at least in part) got the job because of her race and gender…and she genuinely was the best pick out of all the other journalists in the country for the senior political role…
Then Heaven help us, things are even worse than I imagined.
Best case scenario (for all our sake) is she got the nod because it looks good from a diversity perspective.
Agree with you mT - Maiki is only in the job because of TVNZ’s woke diversity policy where race and gender matter more than professionalism, ability and presentation. Race to the bottom for Aotearoa.
Go woke, go broke.
Good news is that the best in NZ can find better jobs and opportunities in Australia and overseas.
I have seen NZer Lucy Hockings on the BBC. She is a good interviewer. She has clear unemotional questioning, yet gets to the point. Maiki is very staccato in comparison, although it has been a while since I have seen TVNZ news.
The BBC wanted her to moderate her Kiwi accent though!
