Aviation expert 777 hasn't got enough to do.
AIR said they had no comment to make on speculation about some kind of merger but it isn't the first time consolidation in Australasia has been mooted.

I did start the posting off with a smile guys. But one of their more recent predictions was that Qantas will be gone in 6 months.
I agree you have to take their predictions with a grain of salt, they predicted years ago that EVA would be gone in months.
However, if the present downturn continues there might be no choice as some carriers start losing heaps.
AIR has come up with theidea of matchmaking flights, might be a winner and fun for some punters who have been thinking of making a sojourn downunder.

Emirates Airline, the largest airline in the Middle East, has reported a fall in profits of 72% for the 2008/09 fiscal year.
Well, in the aviation business it's boom or bust and right now it's a little slow, but could be worse, you could've bet on oil a few months back like you and bermuda did.
Oil won't cause aviation any grief at all because it's going where transition towns are going-nowhere.
You didn't reply to my post about the Cubans going capitalist either.
Cuba Skol, was an example of what can be done with a limited oil supply, nothing more.
Why do u think the government bought back NZ Rail. They know the impending oil crisis is coming.
Why do u think the OZ government just annouced a huge rail spending bill
They are WELL aware of whats ahead as WELL.
PEAK OIL, it has triggered this recession \ depression, depending on where u live in the world.
Airlines are doomed and should be known as a government service only :D
Glad you're hunkered down there in Mapua awaiting peak oil armageddon, out in the real world things are proceeding as usual.
Fact is airlines are here to stay, find another way to travel.
Even bermuda, doyen of peak oil and ardent admirer of Matthew Simmonds and his catastrophic scenario has been travelling the world's airways burning up the last of the fossil fuels.
WELL some good new for u Skol, may it flow through to VBA in OZ, they should have the blueprint.
I'm hoping they will do domestic all around NZ and we may get fares like when Origen Pacific operated :)
Profits jump at Virgin Atlantic
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...5471305_-3.jpg Virgin's results were boosted by premium fare passengers
Virgin Atlantic has reported a sharp rise in profits in the year to the end of February, bucking the trend seen by other airlines. Annual pre-tax profits reached £68.4m ($109m), nearly double the £34.8m seen in the year earlier.
It said the results had been helped by a rise in premium fare passengers.
The results are in contrast to other airlines, including British Airways which reported an annual loss before tax of £401m last week.
BA said the level of premium fare travellers had fallen by 13% in the second half of its financial year and it had seen a rise in fuel costs.
'Tough'
Virgin Atlantic chief executive Steve Ridgway said: "We are winning market share from our competitors during the toughest trading environment ever."
Talking to the BBC, Mr Ridgeway added that successful hedging of fuel had helped the firm, by buying in advance before fuel prices surged.
During the year, the price of oil veered from as much as $147 a barrel to as little as $38.
But he warned: "This year is going to be tough," adding that the airline would "cut costs as aggressively as possible".
Sir Richard Branson, the president and founder of Virgin Atlantic, said: "The last financial year has proven to be the most volatile yet in our 25-year history."
"To increase profits against a backdrop of such a severe recession is an excellent achievement by all of our staff at Virgin Atlantic."
Group sales, which include sales from tour operator Virgin Holidays, increased by 8.4% to £2.579bn from £2.38bn in the year before.
Virgin Atlantic is challenging a possible tie-up between BA and American Airlines, citing competition concerns.
