Cool.. I'm looking at good options to slowly increase my portfolio..would like stocks I can keep for at least the next 10-15 years possibly longer..
Selling ATL was a bit of a mistake ..put it down to learning 🤔..was my first venture into the ASX...
Always appreciate your post's.
Cheers
So what happens with the Smart Shares NZ Dividend fund now that FBU has said it will not be paying a dividend?
Do they keep their position in FBU and the fund pays a lower dividend, or do they reweight the portfolio to include another dividend paying stock (and maybe take a loss on the value of their holding)?
Obviously no-one wants to buy into a share whose aim is to pay dividends, but one of the largest holdings is not contributing!
I have asked them, so will let you know what they say.
Their reply (which was very fast and after five on a Friday);
Thank you for your interest in the NZ Dividend Fund.
As a passive fund manager, we don't make any active decisions about which securities to include or exclude but simply aim to mirror the underlying index; S&P/NZX 50 High Dividend Index.
The S&P Investment committee maintains the index and will review Fletcher Building's decision to cancel their dividend. Companies that cancel their dividends may be deleted from the index at the subsequent semi-annual re-balancing at the discretion of the Index Committee.
I have attached the S&P/NZX Index methodology which contains more information about constituent selection criteria. The S&P/NZX 50 High Dividend Index is designed to measure the performance of the 25 companies with the highest dividend yields and liquidity within the S&P/NZX 50 Index.
To be eligible for addition to the index, a company must meet the criteria below:
1. It must be a current member of the S&P/NZX 50 Index.
2. It must have paid dividends in the past 12 months.
Thanks for that info Grimy. FBU appears to be the largest holding in the FNZ.NZ smartshare fund and the 3rd largest in NZB.NZ. Both have taken a real hit from fbu's downfall. I'd certainly be avoiding investing in either of these funds until fbu is removed from them.
Grimy / jonboy....Sounds likes these sort of funds aren’t for you ...you seem to be too .proactive’ to be investing in passive funds. In doing so you have the bad with the good.
