We could see it hits $7 before the result?
Its official.A unicorn/Copy & paste
Weekend Herald: 2019-07-27 - Shining light - PressReader
4 weeks to result...Must be going to be a great result as strong buy continue
Disney broke own record movies of aladin...toy story...lion king are at record revenue....
"Counter intuitive investing" is almost as hard to comprehend as it is hard to do!
Yesterday when my watch list notified me that VGL's SP had fallen below my preset 'buy' level, I decided to add a few more of it my portfolio at what I hope are 'sale' prices. Time will tell if I'm right (but the lift in Wall St overnight has heartened me!) DYOR.
Good thinking dompf. It's a gutsy call, but I'm feeling better with the SP rise so far today. Hope you are too!
VGL will do well even recession.. people will go to movie... entertainment industry is never in recession!
Thoughts on this sp decrease from those more experienced holders of this share?
Certainly the SP looks soogy but on low volume cf av vol.
I'm not too worried at the moment.
People are locking thier profit as the sp has a stellar run recently but reporting date is 3 weeks away...so far so good....no news like GTK...so expecting a very solid result as the board is so confident during thier annual shareholders meeting...
Not sure if I qualify as 'experienced', but my thoughts FWIW.
A lot of the high flying shares such as ATM, PLX and VGL have had their wings clipped by the recent trade wars uncertainty. No doubt some holders have been taking profits while others have been reducing their risk exposure.
IMHO the recent VGL decline is a short term correction while the longer term trend is still in place. As noted above I've used the recent weakness to add a few more and will do so again if the SP declines further. VGL is only 5% of my portfolio so I'm happy to increase my holdings at current 'sale prices.' I still see it as a v good long term holding.
As usual DYOR and take responsibility for your own decisions.
Great result..moving to Saas ...onward
Not quite the result I had been hoping for....
EBITDA down 19%. Operating Profit down 29%. But here's how the company views it;
• 19% growth in revenue over H12018 for the Vista Group core businesses – Vista Cinema and Movio.
• 16% growth in EBITDA over H12018 for the Vista Group core businesses – Vista Cinema and Movio.
• 35% growth in revenue for Movio over H12018 to $11.6m, resulting in 42% growth in EBITDA over H12018 to $2.3m.
• 12% growth in Vista Group consolidated revenue over H12018 to $67.5m.
• Vista Group EBITDA of $11.8m reduced 19% over H12018 impacted by a decline in movieXchange revenue, reduction in Vista China localisation revenue and adverse comparative FX.
• Vista Group profit before tax of $6.2m.
• Vista Group well positioned to capitalise on future opportunities with $24.8m available cash balance.
• Vista Group to pay a fully imputed interim dividend of 1.2 cents per share for H12019 on Friday 27 September 2019 – the top end of the dividend policy range.
But the growth is huge once moved all to Saas...
Its a hold/buy
Anyone short?
Yeah, bit underwhelming. Did have a look at them few weeks back looking to add but thought I'll wait until the results are out. Also, looks like one of the funds have been reducing their holdings recently (Investment Services I think).
Might see the sp drift below $5 in the short term, just my take DYOR.
Hmmm...down 20% on open, looking nasty.
Good pick up today.....thanks!
The growth is huge...why sell! Once on Saas then is a cash machine...
Thanks King....everything is better after a long walk. Overall my portfolio up at this point today, so can't grumble.
Keep calm and carry on!
OUCH! This is ugly! Must be good buying at this price surely?! Hope so as $4.11 was too tempting for me so it will probably go below $4 now
Geepers $4.00 time to go for a walk
Topped at at 4.38 then again at 4.00. Far too tempting for me :p
One thing I noticed was admin expenses was over $10m more than last year, pushing operating profits down 29%.
Haven't had time to read the report in detail yet. Anyone know what these admin expenses were?
I suspect the fund I mentioned before Investment Services Group have been gradually reducing their stake this year going down from 8.69% to 6.84% and recently to 5.72%. As at current notice they hold 9.5mln shares under their belt. I'm picking they might go under 5% threshold soon if they continue their intentions of offloading.
So, it probably is wise to wait before doubling down or planning to buy in, just my 2c worth.
Some 36% drop since beginning of month is some thrashing
Obviously I need to take a bit of renewed interest.
dont pie funds have a holding , i think when they dont like something they just ditch?
Few big crossings happening today, latest being 1.5m shares at $3.85 a piece.
Least it was only a half year result ...and with the bad news out of the way and after today’s reaction the share price will no doubt hang around 4 bucks until early next year
The talk of slowing growth seems to have come out of the blue ...all seemed honky dory a few months ago at the AGM in July
Disclosure problems? ....poor communication to market?
Nothing worse than pissing off the market ....market hates surprises ...might take a while to regain any semblance of credibility
yes , wouldnve thought continuous disclosure .... etc
was way overpriced at $6 though
even under $4 the p/e is pretty crazy.
Been studying up
They say — Over time we will be targeting Vista Group revenue growth in the region of 13% to 18% as the business grows (excluding any acquisitions)
13% to 18% doesn’t seem much in light of the hype etc ...no wonder share price plummeting
nasty close on the lows
Brutal day...close to a 30% drop...yikes....
ASX just had a notice which says that Will Palmer -Movio CEO purchased 125,000 shares today at $3.90...today( in NZX)
Also the timing of the notice is also a surprise... Never saw a notice coming out on the day of the purchase...(may be it has happened before)...NZX still hasn't released it yet.
May be to instill faith through this purchase after some serious battering... who knows??
Too tempting not to take a punt at this now so I grabbed a bit at today's closing sp. Might catch some more if it goes another 50 cents or lower 2morrow. I'm a holder now and even mentioned then that I will not be a holder of this stock. Guess you should never say never. I blame the falling Market for my gut feel action
I have this bit of software that goes through the days share price movements and flags up things that have moved a lot.
Unfortunately today it put VGL on the list.
In days of old when I held this stock and hardly anyone else talked about it I was always baffled by the ridiculous price it traded at to the extent that I eventually sold it for something more comfortable.
So three years later and what do I see?
A company achieving world domination but not making much money doing it.
A company still trading at a ridiculous price, even after the collapse today.
Why anyone would think of buying into this now is beyond me.
Enlighten me
Disc:
Currently go to the movies once a week on 9 ringgit days.
Last week watched:
Makmum [ :) :) :) ]
http://www.cinema.com.my/images/movi...kmum00_450.jpg
This week praying that I can find something better than:
The Art Of Racing In the Rain: [  ]
http://www.cinema.com.my/images/movi...rain00_450.jpg
Probably the same reason why you bought it then in the days of old and would sell for the same reason you did. We will see and as I said before, it was always been gut feel that guided me on my punts when a stock is down.
disc: would only go to the moviehouse on a blockbuster show as I get most of my sports/movies on free streaming
Recent presentation Vista were raving about their revenue growth of 29% pa (CAGR over 4 years to 2018)
Yesterday they said they were targeting ‘over time’ 13% to 18% pa revenue growth
That’s a massive drop in expectations ...no wonder a massive market response yesterday.
pe over 50 is high for a company with declining growth forecasts
LOL. Clever you. I've no software, the daily NZX top gainers/decliners list does the trick for me. ;)
I doubt I can enlighten someone with your skills (or software!?) and I'm not here to defend VGL, however the same criticism/comments have been made in the past about many of the current 'success' stories, e.g. XRO, ATM to name just two recent ones.
Small to mid cap companies which have a high risk component offer immense returns if they do manage to turn their "world domination" into profitability and become 'large cap companies'.
This week VGL alarmed the market with their announcements of slower growth and they have been punished as a result. I suspect they are being very conservative in their projections and will continue to watch their progress with interest.
Keep watching your movies SL and maybe VGL will have a happy ending!
Insiders still buying
Good sign
Getting Hammered at the moment!
Still going down..... thought the bottom was in at $4.00, obviously not!
Very large off market transactions going through.
If you want it better be quick. Its going to go back up
Been looking for some fund to buy at $3.80 but can not source any...don't want to sell my HGH, MEL,NPH....so yeah...missed out...back up again
Man..with winner onboard....what could go wrong with Vista!
Good on you! Just a question of time. Good company doing good things.
I'm not good at bottom picking (bad habit)...and TA still looking a bit shaky. Fingers poised over the BUY button yet happy to wait till I see the trend changing. Mindful that Oct often a tricky time ahead.
You missed the hint at 2:49 pm.:)
This company has legs; they didn’t hit expectation and were hammered; but the movie industry has weathered pirating and the internet at high speeds and Netflix etc and they are still here; if there is a depression people still watch good movies. I’m happy with my stake in these guys was my biggest performer now ... not so much but it’s ok I think buying is at a good level if people want to come in. I’ll hold :-)
It was much worse than ‘not hitting expectations’ — it was the lowering of future growth expectations that pissed the market off.
Good for some — hope the hype builds again and rather share price gets back to 5 bucks soon and then on to all time highs over 6 bucks
Thought we’d have to wait until tomorrow for 4 bucks but heck today was a good one eh
Only old farts don't go to movie....youngs one always do... especially dating...ehmmm still remembered the good time of watching movies in the cinema with girl friends... 😆
Looking good again today
Now 10% off its low
All looking good — esp if the hype comes back after a few days of disappointment
More and more punters going to more ‘exhibitors’ and each punter spending more
All good for Vista
Impressive chart in recent presentation
Collapse in share price must have been a complete over reaction ....yes?
So 5 bucks sooner than later .....then back to where it was a month or so ago
Even I go to the movies ....quite cool the day time sessions with cut prices
Saw “Blinded by the Light” last week. All about a Pakistani teen living in Luton who discovers the working-class anthems of Bruce Springsteen. A darn good and likeable movie.
Former Australian Treasurer (minister of finance) said The Boss was one of his economic heroes ...more influential than Keynes.
Where do you think the future growth is likely to come from winner or others?
I see in VGL a company priced for a lot of growth P/Rev close to 5, 2018 P/E about 56, this year P/E who knows might be even higher.
The company already has 30 to 40% market share so I am not seeing the great potential.
Fisher fund top up again?
xxxxxxxxxxyz
Geez I didnt see it going down this much :eek2: well in the red with this one and not thinking of topping up either :(
3:15:01 pm 3:15:01 pm 363 2,349,421 17 $8,528,398 1
Big parcel today went through at $3.63. What is going on? Thought it may have bounced by now, only to be sinking slowly everyday!
Bad announcement, much lower expected growth and not giving punters much to get excited about .....that has pissed the market off and likely to become a market pariah.
Unloved and unwanted and is it’s often hard to recover from this state — 40% off its highs says it all and it’s still grossly overvalued
But no worries - Fisher through Kingfisher still think it’s going great and buying more
B
I've been buying in the recent lows and like the news in this announcement
Onwards and upwards.... nicely positioned.
Interesting charts from Clare Capital
Due for a rerate?
Bollinger bands tightening......think where this could be in 5 yrs.
ps..... went to the movies last weekend...booked online, nice and easy. Impressed to see this at the bottom of my ticket.
Attachment 10810
DYOR.... I'm biased and holding.
Me too :t_up:
Insider are buying , bang bang bang . 1Mil shares went through. Excellence.
