Had to laugh and then switch off the TV when viewing the news hub interview this morning with Mahuta about NZ’s response to the Ukrainian crisis.
She did not have a clue and kept mouthing ‘diplomacy’ numerous times as the way to sort out the invasion.
Did not help that she obviously forgot to comb her hair before she appeared in the interview.
NZ foreign affairs are in wonderful hands however according to Cindy. Likewise, 3 Waters.
Mahuta’s response to the Ukrainian situation is about geo-politics surely!
And here’s NZ response so far :
https://www.stuff.co.nz/opinion/3005...to-think-about
“ …….. New Zealand now finds itself standing virtually alone amongst Western countries in having applied few meaningful economic sanctions against Russia.”
Basically a lot of words but bugger all action.
But NZ has donated $2m so far in aid to assist the Ukrainians. Ok until one realises that it is less than the $3m given by this government to the Mongrel Mob to learn how to peddle drugs more efficiently!
Lies , damn lies and statistics...

This 50Km tank column appears to be stalled because of excessive MUD on road but even worse mud off-road. I heard mention should have attacked a month earlier. Ducks beautifully lined up if Ukraine had fighter jets or those 1000 anti tank grenade launchers could work.
Why not simply put obstacles on the road. Furniture, cars, building rubble etc.

(1) The acronym PLC stands for programmable logic controller. Think of them as computers bolted onto the side of machines to run them.
Did you mean acronym?
Another great side-track. PLC is still an acronym. Initialism is a type of acronym.
Acronym:
1. A group of initial letters used as an abbreviation for a name or expression, each letter or part being pronounced separately; an initialism (such as ATM, TLS).
https://www.oed.com/viewdictionaryen...919AA7CE96E364
Yes, I meant acronym.
https://www.rd.com/article/acronym-v...he-difference/
N.B. An abbreviation or an initialism is an acronym when it forms a pronounceable word.
Or
https://www.stylemanual.gov.au/gramm...nd-initialisms
Re-read the Oxford definition. Acronym includes initialis even where each letter is pronounced separately such as ATM.
Merriam-Webster
Acronym:
: a word (such as NATO, radar, or laser) formed from the initial letter or letters of each of the successive parts or major parts of a compound term
also : an abbreviation (such as FBI) formed from initial letters
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/acronym
Webster and OED dictionary definitions are more authoritative than the Aussie government style manual or Reader's Digest.

Putin brings in the mercenaries (ordinary russians don't have the heart for his butchery).
Trouble is the ruble isn't worth much today.
Are russian conscripts/ indentured slaves even paid money.. would be interesting if they weren't.
"American professor's view"
Not buying it. Putin wanted this all along and NATO expansion is just the pretext he needed.
This Prof needs to give his PHD back...
On the economic side its true they arnt buying Russian OIL like they used to and inflation is now being fuelled with more fire.
Well done on calling the invasion a LONG TIME before it happened.
Some people probably don't know the Russian stock market is currently suspended but that Russian ETF's have been trading in the US, (most have also been suspended towards the end of this week) but before they were most were down 70- 80% from the start of this year :eek2:
I remember one poster on here a while back bragging about the deep value in Russian banks and that he or she was going to back the truck up, forgotten who it was...might have been in the Heartland thread and was met with almost universal cautionary notes from the old hands on here. I hope that poster listened !
Trying to figure out what's going on in Putin's head, etc...

Ashley Gardyne chief investment officer at Fisher funds tells investors to stay the course. Average decline due to these shock events going back through history has been 5.7%
Thing is though, he said the same thing a couple of months ago and since then Marlin and Barramundi have lost far more than 5.7%.
Marlin down from an NTA of $1.25 at the start of this year to $1.07 down ~ 14% year to date and Barramundi, ~12%.
Of course what he does not say is that they make fees from funds under management and regardless of whether you win or lose they still win.
Maybe when he says the same thing in another 2 months after further big losses if will be third time lucky ?
On the other hand maybe this war ends early and he's right with this current call but the rhetoric coming out of Putin really doesn't give me much cause for hope there's good news coming anytime soon.
" war ends early"

India must be thinking is our russian equipment serviceable?
The best part of the article is the comment by the Ukraine defence minister.
Remember reading about the black soil of ukraine a long time ago and how this time of year its a natural defence which is also why the ukraine themselves is using smaller groups and man pads.
Yeah and a criminal case that will follow russian to its economy isolation. Who knows even if there economy will be functioning inside 6 weeks.
None of this stuff has ever been thrown at one single economy ever.
The NBC article posted concurs that the ukraine defence ministry expect scuds next..
Big demand to sell apartments in the US and most of the russian dont want to return to russia...
Suppose it takes years to arrange for a Cesar stabbing moment.
Most people here are reading reading Russia situation all wrong...
Why? Because the media is telling them what to think...
Nato and the west set up in Ukraine with a puppet government to intimidate Russia and infultrate the country as they do.... they set up bioweapons labs (which are now destroyed)...and the plan was to put nuclear weapons in Ukraine .. Russia took first mover advantage and strike first before it got to that.. Ukraine is heavily supplied with military equipment from the west...
Remember what happened when the shoe was on the other foot?...
Umm... the Cuba missile crisis??? Remember that..?
The powers have decided to go at Russia for various reasons...
They want to distract us from the important issues like covid and vaccine... and they want to topple Putin because he won't totally go ahead with agendas they have been planning for a long time...
Like 1 world government...
Putin is not totally squeaky clean...
But to share the power is far better than having a complete takeover
"They want to distract us from the important issues like covid and vaccine."
well dont think anyone is distracted except a few people camping somewhere on doc camp sites in camper vans.
It is wrong for the US and NATO to use a small country as a pawn.
Telling Ukraine that they will support it 100% to join the EU and NATO. US and NATO will not use their own citizens to fight Russia but encouraged Ukraine to do so. They will only support Ukraine with arms to kill Russians and be killed themselves. The US arms industry benefit and the EU pay for those arms and the Ukrainians pay with blood. At the same time, the so-called Western Alliance drain Russia of its strength by "supporting" Ukraine. In fact, the US is not harmed at all while the Europeans have to look after millions of refugees and lose cheap energy supplies.
Europe could have better economic prospects if the EU had abandoned NATO expansion and enjoy the fruits of their victory over the USSR. If the EU decided to work with Russia, then NordStream 2 would have been a win-win for both sides.
The EU allowed themselves to be used by the US to maintain its hegemony. It is going to be a multi-polar world and we should all learn to live together peacefully instead of a cold-war mindset for one country or bloc to lord it over the rest.
looks like we got them some spreaders of fake news twisters here folks...

Good post ahgong...
Your onto it...
There has been nothing going on in Ukraine that demanded the the response from Russia that we have seen.A country will be destroyed and thousands killed and maimed on both sides. Then we will have guerilla warfare which will exact another heavy toll.
The only thing that demanded war was an unhinged leader whose response to covid was rubbish,he couldn't find work for millions of Russians, and he had an army doing nothing.
At least when the lynch mob get him they won't have to find a very big tree and thats how it will end.
Oh dear one wonders if we have some chinese CP supporters ... or members..so desperate ... sad people ..
thank you beetills .. great post.
Its good we have different views on here.
I read something the other day.. If everybody is thinking the same.. Nobody is thinking.

As long as there are corrupted regimes like Russia's in the world the West will act to hold the line against them. At the end of the day, Russia as a nation is not much more than a corrupted regime with a gigantic military industrial complex and oil at the core that holds its citizens as hostages to an inferior societal system. The West almost brought Russia onboard as a civilized European nation after the fall of the Soviet Union, but unfortunately Russia chose to regress and go backwards into itself and remain as a failed regime.

Then blame the Chinese.

Russia planning to storm Kyiv
however:
Ukrainian officials also noted Russian forces are attempting to establish control over the cities of Chernihiv and Sumy but have “suffered significant losses” and needed to redeploy additional forces to “replenish manpower and equipment”.
On the bright side, the NATO planes in Eastern Europe are still flying with transponders on.
But after Zelenskiy's speech, I don't think there's any way back now.
"We will not forgive the destroyed houses. We will not forgive the missile that our air defence shot down over Okhmatdyt today. And more than five hundred other such missiles that hit our land. All over Ukraine .. hit our people and children.
We will not forgive the shooting of unarmed people. Destruction of our infrastructure.
We will not forgive.
Hundreds and hundreds of victims. Thousands and thousands of sufferings.
And God will not forgive. Not today. Not tomorrow. Never.
And instead of Forgiveness, there will be a Day of Judgment. I’m sure of it.”
and
"How many such families have died in Ukraine?
We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will punish everyone who committed atrocities in this war on our land.
We will find every bastard who shot at our cities, our people, who bombed our land, who launched rockets.
There will be no quiet place on this earth for you. Except for the grave.”

You are right - whatever the Russian dictator and crook is doing and however it will end - Russia will pay for this crime for many generations to come. Ukrainians will hate Russians and they will kill them wherever they can because Russia attacked them without any provocation. The Russian crook sent his worst criminals to kill not just Ukrainian soldiers defending their home country against an unprovoked attack, but as well killing innocent Ukrainian civilians.
How could anybody forget and forgive that.
Who needs missile defence systems here, when we already have an abundant supply of resident drones ;)
There are reports Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov will attend the next round of Russia - Ukraine negotiations.
Even if he does a Baghdad Bob act denouncing Ukrainian Nazis and blaming the "West" his attendance is a sign the Kremlin is beginning to recognize the pickle they are in.

If what they are asking is all they want it does not seem that impossible. Crimea was Russian anyway and the two separatist states? And a commitment to neutrality? That's a short list really.

Actually - The Chinese navy has more ships than the US navy ... and while they are smaller, they don't need to be that big given that they are much closer to any likely conflict zones (less need to carry fuel, supplies and spares). As well - a rocket launched from a small ship is as dangerous as a rocket launched from a large ship.

That's apples and oranges really. The Soviets gifted Crimea to Ukraine probably in a vodka induced state of generosity and have lived to regret it. I can't remember which leader but a lot of Soviet leaders were Ukrainian.
