Listen up turds...

I will make it up to you with an update in the middle of Dec... when this competition really starts to heat up...

Our cornerstone investor decided not to review portfolio returns this month so
there were no internal update from our firm, and hence I didnt post the monthly results...
solid performance from the previous month see's our cornerstone investor still on holiday and oblivious to the current state of our portfolio......

All employee bonus's have been distributed...
We are now asking for them back..:scared:.

Hey, can someone help me with this one. I have never been in a stock picking comp before and am wanting to know what the rules are in respect to this query:
One of my picks, KOR, is planning on doing three spinoffs from the company. One uranium and two gold.
So.... when/if the spin offs happen KOR is going to go down in price. For the comp rules what happens? Is my KOR selection going to be a combined total of possibly four differant share prices? i.e. KOR + Uranium co + Gold co #1 + Gold co #2 = my selection price.
Thanks for your help,
Ponda

Ponda
31-05-2010, 10:12 AM
KOR share price will still reflect the value of the spinoffs as they will either have the cash in bank from the IPO, or a combination of cash and a shareholding in the spinoff. So nothing changes.

Thanks KW, sorry for the late reply.
Bugger!! Here I was thinking that I might get a march on the rest of the team, but what KW has said makes sense.

Now for the results.....

Come on Shrewdy spill the beans. My guess is you are very busy running Texas Holdem and Poker games, the gambler you are

Hey oiler,
Yes I am busy with Online poker... its my full time job...
my beans are magic...

I decided to give Omaha hi low a real crack because I was making money at it consistantly... I saw these pros run good at the game almost everytime, and I had strong foundations in omaha hi.... its not a conventional way to build a career as a graduate but ive always been shrewd about my ways... as you know I built a portfolio from only 3k and this year/next should be the time for my stocks to go to the next level... ive been tweaking this poker for years and found Omaha hi low last year, and decided to give this a go at a quick shot at success before Id settle down in a real job....
I might have to get a job anyway, starring at the computer screen so much is not making me well...Its just not worth it if my health is no good...last week I changed the resolution on the screen and Its worked.. so I just dont know...im heading off to Brisbane in a few months to see my sister and holiday and might pop into Sydney and woo them with a preso, and will see what happens...
But at the moment Im content with building 35k bankroll for World Series of Poker Next year from online small deposit 200 US this year.. selling dollars to friends daily, recieving cheques, and living off my winnings... but its not easy as a poker player who has to cash out to live, and build a strong bankroll in such a small amount of time to make it for the biggest Omaha tornament in the World in just over one years time... so building my bankroll is not as much as I would like, but it should hopefully near that 35k target by next year, I am hoping....... 35k is still so much to risk for me on 3 tornaments, travel, hotel etc.... but it is my destiny, I am one of the best....
....
I will have to front at the World series in Vegas next year, I wont be selling my current stocks to fund my travels...... theres no sponsorship options available to me unless I perform live... and then im a made man if I hit, I have a pretty good shot at this game in Vegas... I have watched the same puppets on ESPN, as they are online...
no one understands apart from me and my poker friends who see me crush fields...
My family doesnt like it, I got a few rolling eyes at one of the sharetraders meeting...
im pretty personal about my stuff in real life, but the alter ego is at work now... lol...

im living a real dream.... im in the process of moving my income US dollars over to shares, looks like a good rate, and im buying a few BAS shares in a couple of weeks...theres something in the Albers connection to come, a juicy prospect and farmin I reckon.... wouldnt mind a few more NGE eah... can never have too much;).....
found a couple of real special oil stocks as you know... CUE and NGE, nothing like them on the market...
as for girls... well.... ive got this nice tiny girl... she is half my size, shes 50kg, but im getting bored and might be looking... she does not read this site...my alter ego shrewd crude is the online dude... lol..... im not keen to get too commited to anything, ... next year World series of poker dollars coming $$$... bling bling...:t_up:... not doing anything major until after that...
...

Thanks Shrewdie for the update. Cheers about KOR comments, not really sure what you mean, tho.
Good luck with your poker exploits.

P.S If you get a chance can you please have a quick look at the GGE thread. I put up a couple of questions the other day and no answers yet. It's about an oiler and you will be able to help.

Hi Shrewdie,

Thanks for the update. :)

Please could you put in the adjustment for GPG 1:10 bonus issue? Also, out of interest, is this comp including divs or purely cap gains?

Won't get me back into profit, but would claw back about half my loss...

quite incredible...
last two days no good, but took today off and back to work tomorrow...

I started a thread in the off markets discussion thread...
check it out for for details...

please excuse any mistakes ive made in running the comp...
I really made a mistake taking this competition on... I guess it was my instincts to make sure all the stock picks were compiled as it was looking like there would be no asx competition.... I didnt realise how much work was involved...
My time contraints to work this have meant I make uncharacteristic like mistakes which is made time consuming by late entrants having all different prices so it has been necessary for me to punch the numbers on a calc which takes me about 4 hours all up...
im happy to do it, I am machine like but please excuse minor mistakes...
thank you peace...

YOU ARE ALL FIRED

hahahaha...
just joking...

as portfolio manager (chief organiser of the competition), I explained to our client that our expert team had notable talent in the field of speculative stock selection and that we have still outperformed our competitors in portfolio management in the finance industry...I defended you lot and made it clear that if he did choose other portfolio management teams in the industry, that he would risk doing business with cowboys... he agreed... I went on to say that our clients level of wealth had not fallen against his peers... I explained that the real economy had hit the share market and these depressed share prices have only increased our firms appetite to increased exposure to these wonderful stocks...

Our team is still in discussions as to when the share market will turn.... But no doubt, it will turn...

I explained that the fundamentals only improve as the shareprices have fallen....
this discussion really lifted our clients eye lids...
The shine was back, and he reneged on his Donald Trump 'your fired'...
I could sense his excitement in our team remained strong......

Appalling performance this year.

I'm 12th & still in positive territory, having lead in Jan & Feb i'm still happy with what i picked

BSM - Is due to expand production from Q3 to boost revenue
MAK - Is moving towards production, but has funding issues holding it back
GIR - My best performer & still actively drilling & should have plenty of news/more JORC resources this year
OEL - Travelling nicely, & any farm in deal with BHP will set it flying, also Galoc phase 2 to look forward to
RDR - Mt Marion Lithium project decision to mine, increased gold production & promising Nickel projects should generate more good news

Of course if the US recession has a double dip then the ASX market could really $hit it pants & those with gold stocks should do well

I suspect the oil price above $US80/bbl is helping many leveraged to O&G plays

Its all part of the strategy! What exactly that strategy is i am unsure but I am very confident there is one. Great bunch of people to talk to at our end of the competition chart I reckon Sepie:D Our time will come - at some stage.

Back to the toil.

M,
See my last post on TEX file. Major disappointment. Sold out and put the lot on NWE. Am going over to Perth for Good Oil conference and will see Laurence ( TEX ) and Peter ( NWE ).

TEX could still surprise but their communication is pp.

On the bright side there is a lot of talk about this current negative sentiment. Apparently the bond market is hit a bubble and there will be a rush to equities/commodities. I agree. BRIC will outplay the USA/etc.

So to finish in the black my other 4 picks have to offset TEX being a right off.

There is certainly a lot of talk about a double did recession being unlikely - it would be nice if that pans out.

Perth is damn cold at the moment - only a max of 17 degrees today - but will be warmer when you come over for the Good oil conference

Best regards

Hi Airedale,
Yes, I have a meeting arranged with Ian Davies and may attend the special VPE AGM on the 9th. I have already posted my return voting against the issue of these options to both JK and ID.
Ian Davies comes with a very good reputation. VPE is poised to perform but I have been saying that for years! I really think that CSG stocks will outperform over the next 6 months particularly when the first Gladstone FID is announced. VPE will be making a statement on proved reseves very shortly. VPE major shareholders are ex QGC and didnt buy into VPE for nothing. Been a long time but patience will be rewarded.

All the best in the competition. Hopefully I can get into positive territory but TEX sure hurt.

Way ta go there Jenny.

I was on the hunt last year for a PHP script, which, is actually out there somewhere, but needs to be modified. But then I surfed every website form here to Hotscripts to FreshMeat to sourceforge, and I could not find the script that I saw about a couple of years back.

I may even have it on a couple of the HDDs I have laying around, but the problem is there are (and I mean there ar) millions of scripts so I was hoping it would be easier just to track it down on the web. Time passes so fast and days and weeks can evaporate so I just let it go.

Good luck with writing it, should find something or if you need a development space, let me know and I can offer you some space.

Cheers :)

drillfix - it should be a fairly simple thing to write, i can easily get asx end of day feed. what i need to do is load up all of your names with your picks. a wee bit of computer logic would load in the start prices from dec 31 end of day data.
every now and again i can get it to calculate the percentage gain/loss on each portfolio using the endofday data on the day.
i can easily run this on my home pc then copy the result to this thread.

i wont do a run until some time in feb, after the last day of late entries at the end of jan. i have until then to get it going.

this is the sort of thing that could be used every year for this competition so once i can say it is working ok then anyone can have a copy.

Ahh Jenny, your talking about an Excel spreadsheet with DDE type thing.

Thought you were referring to a potential web app, which would be integrated into the site so to speak.

It would take the manual tasks of what you have to do and would always auto update EOD data and rank the top 10, publish (order) the list etc and would only need someone to admin it ie: the start and close of entries with perhaps also modifying any edits or changes if need be.

Well done though Jenny, look forward to seeing your work. :)

just a visual basic app to start. my other half will code it up, he is quick at doing stuff like that. a web app integrated into the site would be a good idea, maybe look to adapting it later. need to do some learning for that.

well one day to go and by my very rough estimate I think have cracked 100% gain, even with 2 lemons - TEX and BOW.

SC, will you show the gain and loss of each share?

M

ps, SER, MNC & KAS should have very significant upside for 2011 - 2013 and beyond, if one is looking to find a home for their hard earned $$

best wishes to all posters for 2011

5th is a very decent outcome for me.

Kas certainly helped my result - up over 400% for the year, despite number of shares on issue increasing by 450%.
Helped my pocket as well.

Thanks, SC. A bit of good clean fun, even if our picks bear little resemblance to our real portfolios at the end of the year. 2010 was a good year for me, investment-wise, and I think I will stick with the junior miners for the 2011 competition. Trouble is, there are so many tempting targets to choose from.

Happy New Year to all.

Whoa :t_up:Get back from holiday and see that I won!

Ive gone very safe with my 2011 bets, so dont think I will be on top come the end of this year. EQX has been a amazing stock to watch last year, still got alot of room to move in 2011 (pity I didnt actually put anything into it........)

So could everyone bow to me at Bermudas bbq that would be great! ;)
Also thanks Shrewdy for running the comp!
